Obituary For Verna Rae Fraley Wemple
Verna Rae Fraley Wemple was born April 20, 1932 to Ray Fraley and Elberta Ramsey Fraley, and Passed away peacefully June 2, 2026 at Banner Lassen Medical Center.
Her parents were engaged in Cattle ranching and hay growing, so mom was quickly immersed into the Lassen County agricultural community. She attended Soldier Bridge Elementary School and went on to Lassen High School in Susanville graduating with the class of 1950
In her younger years she was active in 4-H and continued her involvement in high school. She also participated in girl's athletic teams and was very engaged in high school activities. During these years she made many friends who remained constant throughout her life.
Mom married our father, Glenn Wemple, from another ranching family located in Milford, California, on September 16, 1951. Together, they raised three children, Bill, Glenda, and Fred at the family ranch in Milford.
In the fall of 1966, when Bill was entering high school, Glenda seventh grade and Fred starting kindergarten, Verna went to work for the US Forest Service on the Milford District of the Plumas National Forest as a clerk/typist. She said that as her children grew older, she felt she could do more to support her family. Despite our father's initial hesitation, she persevered and pursued her career.
Verna truly blossomed when she began her work with the forest service. She loved her job and took great pride in it, finding both independence and fulfillment. Over time, she became a respected and valued member of her team. She eventually went on to serve on a class one regional fire team for many fire seasons. During her participation on these fire teams, Verna continued to demonstrate her strong work ethic and dedication. Her participation often requested by her supervisors.
In her retirement years mom enjoyed traveling with our dad. She also became involved with the Milford Community Association, PEO, and her grandchildren.
Verna is survived by her son Bill; her daughter Glenda and husband Randy; and her son Fred and wife Dena. Grandchildren Kimber Azevedo (Paige), Kelly Del Carlo and her husband Johnny (Dylan and wife Deanna, Nate, Lilly, and Joel Del Carlo), Rob Azevedo and wife Julie. Matt Wemple and wife Morgan (Charlotte, Elliott, and Logan Wemple) and Callie Wemple. Verna is also survived by Great Great granddaughter Madeline DelCarlo.
Graveside services will be held at the Milford Cemetery in Milford, California on June 22, 2026 at 10:30 AM, with a celebration of her life at Wemple's Pumpkin Patch immediately following. If desired, guests may bring a dessert.
