Obituary For Paul Moore
Paul Moore, a lifelong -Susanville resident and deeply loved member of the community, passed on the morning of June 14, 2026, leaving a hole in his community that will never be filled. Born on January 23, 1970, to Ron and Cecilia Moore, Paul was raised in Susanville alongside his younger brother, Brian. His mother describes him as a wonderful son and a tremendous person, something that was clear to everyone who knew him. He loved his hometown and built his life there, focused on his family, his faith, and taking care of others.
Paul met his wife, Meegan, at church, and anyone who knew Paul knew how much Meegan meant to him. It showed in the way he lived his life and the choices he made every day. They were married on August 3, 2013, and from that point on, they were inseparable.
He stepped into Aiden’s life and loved him as his own, and in 2014, he became a dad to Caleb. A role that meant everything to him. Paul loved spending time with Caleb, whether it was around sports or just being together. Those everyday moments were what he valued most. In 2026, Paul and Meegan began the process of adopting their grandson Atlas, continuing Paul’s natural instinct to love, guide, and take care of his family.
Paul’s life was defined by the way he poured into others, especially through coaching. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and his journey took him from Louisiana to China, where he coached the Chinese Olympic softball team. But no matter where he went, his heart was always in mentoring young people.
Back in Susanville, Paul gave so much of himself to Lassen High School. He coached softball, football, and basketball, and also spent time coaching with the Chico Stars, making the drive simply because he cared. He won over 500 games in his career, but that was never what mattered most to him. What mattered were the kids—the relationships, the lessons, and the chance to help shape who they became. At the time of his passing, he was still coaching varsity softball and football at Lassen High School.
One of the moments he cherished most was in 2017, when he had the opportunity to coach varsity basketball alongside his dad—something that meant more to him than any win.
His love for sports started early. As part of the Lassen High School Class of 1988, Paul was on the varsity boys basketball team that won a section title and a state playoff game, an accomplishment he always carried with pride.
Outside of coaching, Paul spent 30 years as the General Manager of the Super 8 in Susanville. He was a familiar face and someone people trusted—steady, reliable, and always willing to help.
Paul loved being active and outdoors. He enjoyed running and participated in events like the Courage Triathlon. He loved spending time at Eagle Lake and being on the water, especially water skiing. He was also a loyal fan of Ohio State football, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
His faith was at the center of everything. Paul was a dedicated member and elder at Community Church, and he lived out his faith in the way he treated people—with humility, consistency, and care.
More than anything, Paul will be remembered for how he made people feel. He showed up. He gave his time, his energy, and his heart freely. He believed in people, especially young people, and that made a lasting difference. He was truly the salt of the earth. Meegan often joked and called him “Saint Paul,” because to her—and to so many others—that’s exactly who he was.
Paul is survived by his wife, Meegan; his sons, Aiden and Caleb; his grandson, Atlas; his parents, Ron and Cecilia Moore; his brother, Brian Moore, and sister-in-law Amy Moore; his aunt and uncle Donna and Norman Sheppard; his aunt and uncle Robert and Marsha Smith; his uncle Jack Smith; and his beloved dogs, Benji and Newton.
Services for Paul will be held On July 25, 2026 at Community Church at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at Sentimental Journeys at 4:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to wear Ohio State or Lassen High School colors in his honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Paul Moore Scholarship being established. Checks can be sent to the LHS Alumni Association, P.O. Box 471, Susanville, CA 96130. Please specify “Paul Moore Scholarship.”
Paul leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and a sense of humor that made even the hard days a little lighter.
We love you, Paul.
