Obituary For Odette Helene Doris Beaudoin Swift

ODETTE HELENE DORIS BEAUDOIN SWIFT
SEPTEMBER 7, 1946 – May 12, 2024

Odette passed peacefully after complications from open heart surgery that occurred on May 1, 2024.
Odette was born in Biddeford, Maine to Arnold Adele Beaudoin and Mary Ida Dorothy Blanchette and
known as Dorothy. Odette was proceeded in death by her brother Richard Beaudoin in 1994, mother
Dorothy in 1995 and Father Arnold in November 2010. Many of you may recall seeing Arnold with
Odette around town. The kindest man most may ever know!
Odette became a realtor in Southern California in 1967. She obtained her broker’s license in 1971. She
relocated from Southern California to Placerville, California in 1973 where she was introduced to her
future husband, Michael. The two were introduced to each other by Michael’s sister Janet and it was a
match. They sustained a 165-mile, each direction relationship until they were married in October 1978.
Michael sold his home and Odette sold hers and they started the journey to Susanville. In fact, they
moved to Sunnyside Road the first week in January 1979.
Odette worked for a short time at Schwelm Realty as a condition of purchasing the 20-acre parcel on
Sunnyside Road. She opened her own office later that year at 1955 B Main Street and was trying to get
another commitment for a three-year lease, but the owner of the property was not motivated! So, in
true Odette fashion she bought the 10-acre commercial property at the corner of 395 and Sunnyside
Road and opened just before Christmas 1982.
It was in 1995 that Odette decided she wanted to have an office in Susanville again and purchased the
office building at the corner of Fairfield and Main streets. This building was functioning as a Mexican
restaurant at the time and Mike and Odette worked to convert it into offices. This building is said to
have had an interesting past with a bar downstairs and rumors of a brothel being operated upstairs in
years gone by. She had the first floor remodeled in 1995 and second floor in 1996, the company was
Realty World Lassen Land and Homes. She maintained both offices until 2010. Odette eventually
dropped Realty World name and became Lassen Land and Homes. The office located at the corner of
Fairfield and Main streets was recently sold and closed escrow. Odette was concentrating on the
Janesville office being so close to her home. Odette is survived by her husband of 45 years, Michael
Swift. They had no children.
Odette was an adventurer who loved sail boating, loved to fly, loved the ocean, sunsets, gardening, her
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And, as you read this, we pray you can hear her infectious laughter.
Odette loved laughter as much as she loved you. We will miss her…

Services will be held at the Honey Lake Assembly of God on Saturday June 1, 2024 at 11:00.
