Obituary For Marilyn Mary Getty

Marilyn Mary (Nelsen) Getty was born on April 21, 1931 at home, in Prescott, Ia. to Lawrence and Florence Nelsen.

While attending college in Maryville, Missouri she met Robert Getty and they were married on Dec. 27, 1950 at St. Patricks Catholic
Church in Corning, Iowa.

Marilyn started her teaching career in 1950. In 1952 Bob and Marilyn moved to San Diego, Ca. where Bob entered the Navy.

In Feb. 1956 they welcomed their first child, Robert. They then returned to Missouri and in 1957 their second child, Mary was born followed in 1958 by
their third child, Michael.

Marilyn taught for 2 years, as a 3rd grade teacher in Missouri. In 1960 the family returned to California settling in Tracy. Marilyn resumed her
teaching career. After 13 years teaching in Tracy the family moved to Susanville in 1972 due to Bobs promotion/transfer with the California
Dept. of Corrections.

In 1973 the family welcomed (to their surprise) the youngest member of the family, Laura. In 1973 Marilyn resumed her teaching career at
Johnstonville Elementary School, teaching lst grade. She retired in 2002 having taught for 44 years.

In 2010 her husband of 60 years, Bob passed away. In 2021 Marilyn and her daughters, Mary and Laura moved to Meridian, Idaho to be closer
to family.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, Lawrence and Florence and her brother Norman (Chub) Nelsen.

She is survived by her daughters Laura and Mary Getty, her sons, Robert (Susan) and Michael Getty as well as grandchildren, Angelina Giovanni, Daniel
and Brian Lynch, Anthony and Dominic Getty, Tia Fisher and Robert Chastain and her niece Rita Riley, grandniece. Nicky Cooney and grandnephew Jesse Riley.

Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Susanville on May 25th, 2024. Rosary will be at 10:30 followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 am.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. Luncheon will be served after the Mass at Monsignor Moran Hall.
