Obituary For Marilyn Joyce Jenkins
Marilyn Joyce Jenkins “aka” Mom, Mare & Mareheimer
July 25, 1937, to March 20, 2025
Mom passed away peacefully at Banner Lassen Medical Center on 3/20/2025. Mom was 87 years old. Proceeded in death was son Terry Allen Allman, and the love of her life Terry Leighton Allman.
Marilyn left behind two children, Dennis Allman and Sherrill Ridgway (Greg), Grandchildren: Aaron (Neisha), Jessica, Amber, Nicole, Carisa (Dan), Kevin (Allison) and Katie Brown (Kyle), numerous great & great-great grandchildren.
Marilyn was born to Ralph and Edna Jenkins in St. Louis Mo. Marilyn was the fifth child of eight. Marilyn eloped at the young age of 16 and married what would be the love of her life Terry Allman, on October 10th, 1953. Those that said they would never make it were proven wrong, celebrating 69 years together. Besides raising children, Marilyn was an accomplished cellist and later taught herself piano. Mom also loved sports and was the pitcher for the Jaycees Women’s Slow-pitch Softball Team, in Elk Grove, Ca., one year winning the title for Northern California, and proceeded to the Nationals in Chattanooga, TN.
Mom with several other mom’s started the girls slow pitch softball association in Elk Grove, Ca. which ended up becoming bigger than she could ever imagine.
Mom worked at McClellan Air Force Base, and later moved to Madeline, Ca. to” live off the land” to get out of the rat race, they loved the place but it was a very hard life, while there mom was offered the position of Postmaster at Ravendale, Ca., this set her up for a position in Devil’s Elbow, Mo. as a Postmaster. Mom ran the Post Office and Pop ran the store Allman’s Market. They enjoyed their time with elderly parents and getting reacquainted with cousins. They eventually retired and moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, thinking that would be close enough to the kids, but ended back in Susanville in 2015.
Mom and Pop joined the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Susanville and would help with dinners at Crossroads. Mom made many friends, some friends going back to childhood, they stayed in touch over the years and even came out to visit in the summers. Mom was loved by all and will be missed, her smiling face and her talented piano playing. Mom is with the love of her life once again, and in the presence of the Holy Father. Till we meet again, Love You Mom.
