Frank Scott Ulch passed away on May 19, 2026 at his home in Sparks, Nevada, surrounded by family. Scott was born in Oroville, California on July 20, 1952. He spent his youth in Susanville, California with his loving parents Millard Walker and Selena Helen Ulch on the Ulch Family Ranch raising Morgan horses and cattle. Scott graduated from Lassen High School in 1971. He volunteered with the Susan River Fire Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Posse.
Scott married Patsy Ulch, on May 20, 1983. They enjoyed 43 wonderful years together and their journey involved ranching, gold mining, and tree farming. They built a legacy of silver tip Christmas tree farming, starting with one retail lot and growing the business into a wholesale operation with trees being shipped across the nation. Scott felt most at home in the high Sierra mountains, among trees and timber, with a saw in hand. He had an affinity for operating equipment and spent countless hours making his visions of good roads and cleanup come to life. To watch him operate equipment, was to watch art in motion. A highly respected ranch realtor, he excelled in his profession earning many awards. In every season of life, he marked the things he loved with his family’s rocking chair or 7U brand and always had a good dog by his side.
Scott loved people with the social nature of a friendly puppy. People loved him. The tangible evidence of this is the flood of condolences his family received. He was a masterful storyteller with a command of the English language that left his listeners with a vivid mental picture and good laugh. An encyclopedia of information, his brain power wowed as he would freely share his incredible wisdom on many subjects from history to geology to forestry to geography and beyond. His grandkids knew he was always good for an ice cream run, as long as they showed their appreciation with a signature “thanks Grump-pa”. He had a sparkle in his blue eyes and the best original one-liners.
Scott is survived by his loving wife Patricia Ulch. He was a ladies’ man, not by choice, but in the sense that his lot in life was to be the dad to daughters! Those daughters are: Shawna McCutcheon (Matt), Cassandra Kindle (Jesse), Adreanne Ulch, Jessica Clarke (Rob), Rachel Duffle (Brian), Penny Goddard (Phillip), Selena Pope (Jade). Grandchildren Alesha Lindsey, Justin Lindsey, Brett Lindsey, Sean McCutcheon, Abigail McCutcheon, Tyler White, Keigan Cope, Max Granados, Emma Clarke, Sarah Finley, Ryder Land, Savannah Goddard, Steehl Pope, Cinch Pope, Slack Pope and Shayd Eve Pope and great grandchild Avakate Michel. He is preceded in death by his parents Millard Walker Ulch and Selena Helen Ulch, and in laws Clifton and Gladys Vasso.
Private graveside services for immediate family will be held at the Lassen Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
